Bronzeville Estates, $12.2 million investment completed in 2024, is a multi-site housing initiative designed to restore stability to distressed blocks within Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood. Spearheaded by Maures Development Group, LLC in collaboration with the City of Milwaukee, the project strategically clusters redevelopment across scattered vacant lots and foreclosed homes. This block-by-block approach directly addresses the visible symptoms of disinvestment—such as blight, abandonment, and poor housing conditions—by reactivating these sites with quality, mixed-income housing that restores neighborhood pride and reduces the spread of decline.
The development includes 30 new homes—both duplexes and single-family—serving a range of incomes, from 30% to 60% Area Median Income, with a portion reserved for market-rate tenants. This mixed-income strategy fosters a more economically diverse and resilient community. In addition to the new housing, on-site property management and a dedicated community service facility, operated by the Bronzeville Center for the Arts, will anchor ongoing resident engagement. Programming will include arts, wellness, job training, and entrepreneurship, further reinforcing community ties and supporting long-term sustainability.
Bronzeville Estates builds on the momentum of previous investments like The Griot and Historic Garfield Apartments, reinforcing a broader vision for the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District. By investing in multiple, closely situated sites, the project multiplies its impact—stabilizing blocks, attracting further development, and reducing the risk of gentrification. Led by a minority-owned firm, this initiative models how equitable development can simultaneously address housing needs, support local business growth, and ensure that revitalization benefits long-term residents first.
